From aperitif to digestif

Brasserie Appelmans & Absinthbar is the ideal place to enjoy tasty cocktails and other beverages. Wim Deweerdt, our experienced bar manager with roots in Antwerp, always guarantees a perfectly composed drinks menu, that offers something for anyone. Is the burden of choice too heavy for you? No problem, we pick a handful of suggestions for you every month. Each and every one of our bartenders has their unique personality, which creates a unique cocktail style that’s definitely worth discovering. Both in the lively Absinth Bar and in the more intimate Private Bar, our bartenders feel completely at home. .

The Absinthbar

Our current building was built at a time when absinthe was becoming more and more famous. The green fairy, as it was then lovingly called, inspired many writers and artists including Van Gogh, Oscar Wilde, Rimbaud, Hemingway and Marilyn Manson. Its mystical vibe can still be found in our building.
When Brasserie Appelmans & Absinthbar first got started, absinthe was still forbidden in Belgium. We couldn’t imagine a bigger challenge at the time. For more than a year, we sold various types of absinthe ‘from under the counter’. After legalizing absinthe, our bar grew into one of the most famous cocktail and absinthe bars in Belgium. Up to this day, we still have a very nice selection of absinthe that we enjoy serving or use in our cocktails in different traditional ways..

Private bar

Hidden behind a beautiful rotating bookcase, made out of solid wood, is the Private Bar. The typical speakeasy-style bar makes you feel like you’re right in the roaring twenties. Between the numerous wooden pharmacy cabinets you can enjoy a quality cocktail, perfectly served Belgian beer or a good glass of wine. This very quiet and cozy bar, located on the second mezzanine, is accessible on Friday and Saturday. On the other days of the week, you can rent the space for demonstrations, stylish parties, private dining or cocktail workshops.
